About The Artist

John Sawyer

I have been interested in photography since I was a little boy squinting into the sun for my Father's snapshots. When I was 10 years old my parents gave me a Kodak Instamatic Camera for Christmas. I was hooked.

My high school had a nice graphic arts department with two great teachers who taught me that photography could be art and a visual record of who we are not just goofy pictures of my friends and pets. The school's darkroom was fully equipped and I learned how to develop film and make prints. There is still something about seeing an image emerge from a blank sheet of photo paper that digital photography will never replace.

After high school my photography gave way to college, career,  and life in general.  In the late 90's I went back to college, learned computer drafting, and got a job with a civil engineering firm. We often worked with digital images and this is where I got my start editing digital images. The boss had an early digital camera he would let me borrow.

In the early 2000's I took the plunge and bought my first digital camera. 3 megapixels! Cameras usually come with software bundles that include a starter version of an image editing program. Being a computer user (aka nut) this was right up my alley and I progressively learned more techniques and moved into more powerful software.

Between then and now I have become more experienced with digital image manipulation to the point that I decided to strike out on my own as a free lance digital artist.

I see photo restoration as a valuable service that can bring pleasure to the owners of damaged photographs.
